The BEST Sugar Cookies Ever!

Holidays, to me, often have little to do with what actual holiday we're celebrating (other than Easter and Christmas) and waaaaay more to do with what delicious food tradition I get to enjoy because of _______ holiday. Lucky for me, Valentine's Day holds one of my most favorite, delicious holiday food traditions: Heart-shaped Valentine's Day cookies decorated in Pink, White, and Purple with sprinkles. My mom had probably 8-10 heart cookie cutters that fit together from smallest to largest size. We made sugar cookies for every valentine's day that I can remember. My mom pointed out that of her 3 kids, I am the one who gets the most excited about whichever holiday food tradition we're currently on, which is also a reason why I have to count my calories so that I don't explode into blimp-like proportions. We make butter cookies and peppermint bark for Christmas. It just doesn't seem like Christmas to me without these two staple items, and Brazelis, which have been added from John's family tradition.

Anyway, I digress. I have been on the hunt for a new sugar cookie recipe that is actually a delicious cookie, not just a means to get frosting into my mouth. Did I really write that? I love frosting.... so sue me. But only if it's almond extract-infused frosting. Well, this year, thanks to Our Best Bites, I finally found a delicious sugar cookie. So delicious that I think I consumed my weight in cookie dough. And the best part is that it doesn't make an overabundance of cookies like a lot of recipes do. I made 2.5 pans full, which in sugar cookie language isn't really that many. Probably enough for John and I to enjoy a few and to give a plate to some neighbors. I haven't frosted them yet, but I can just tell they will be delicious.

Speaking of frosting, anyone have a favorite frosting recipe?
